Your learning path

Ordinary attention has a practical scope. The source's definition adds a specific spiritual purpose and several conditions that must not be silently dropped.

The selected definition includes more than moving air

Glorian's opening combines breathing with chastity, concentration, imagination and a transmutation purpose. A student who copies only a breath movement has not thereby followed the whole source framework. The glossary's account is particular to this Gnostic presentation. It should not be announced as the sole historical meaning of pranayama across all Hindu, Buddhist or modern yoga traditions.

A definition is not readiness for a technique

The same page later gives quoted methods involving breath retention. Those methods are outside the selected reading. Understanding a term does not establish that a method is suitable, correctly understood or safely supervised. NHLBI describes gas exchange in a different explanatory register; it does not verify prana or the source's transmutation claims. Keep these roles distinct before considering any further instruction.

A definition is reduced too far

An original fictional example

A reader summarises the glossary as breathe deeply to gain energy. The revision restores the named spiritual purpose and accompanying conditions, while making no instruction to breathe deeply. The reader can now ask a relevant question about a particular method rather than assume that a simplified slogan contains it. No bodily practice has occurred through this definition exercise.

Prepare one activity

Use the bounded glossary reading below, carrying forward an earlier reading from the site's breathing introduction if already completed. Do not follow the later methods on the source page. You will explain a definition, not practise breath regulation.

Explain the definition without becoming its method

Our educational activity · One attempt is enough before reflection

  1. Name the elements Glorian includes in its opening definition, identifying the publisher rather than presenting them as a universal yoga definition.
  2. Distinguish that spiritual framework from the physiological account of air and gas exchange. Do not use one as proof of the other.
  3. State why a later retention instruction requires separate preparation and qualified review. End at the reading boundary; no breath change is the assignment.

Another way: Use the supplied summary and mark the source check as incomplete. You can still identify what the definition includes and what it does not authorise.

A smaller beginning: Correct the slogan that pranayama means only deep breathing. Keep the full method question for appropriate guidance.

When this is difficult

What if the page calls a technique easy?

Ease in a source's wording is not an individual suitability assessment. Stay within the assigned passage. A named method still needs clear instructions, appropriate preparation and qualified guidance; a glossary label does not remove those needs.

Pause and reflect

Our editorial reflection · Think it through or keep a private note. Nothing is submitted or scored.

  1. Which part of the source definition would a breath-only slogan omit?
  2. What can you now explain without claiming readiness to perform a method?
See one way to think it through

The revised account preserves a particular spiritual purpose and conditions. It is conceptual understanding of a source, not experience of transmutation, a clinical assessment or approval of the later techniques.

Take with you: Learn the whole meaning of a definition before borrowing one part as a practice.

An unanswered question is a useful result. You can revisit this topic; you do not need a perfect answer to continue.
