A first week in ordinary language

Tiny steps a regular person can do. No streak. No shame if the month is messy. If the numbers are already a crisis, a qualified adviser or a local aid office may belong before this list.

  1. Day 1 — Notice one day’s spending without changing it

Write what actually left. A coffee, a bill, a tap on a phone. You are not taking a vow. You are collecting a fact. No scoreboard.

  2. Day 2 — One must-pay list

Housing, food, transit, insurance, minimum debt payments — the bills that keep a life standing. One list. Not a moral ranking of wants. The budget tool can hold it on this device if you want.

  3. Day 3 — Look at leftover, or the shortfall, without a sermon

Income minus must-pays. A leftover is not holiness. A shortfall is not a spiritual grade. It is arithmetic about rent and wages as much as about habit.

  4. Day 4 — One honest look at debts

Balances, rates, minimums if you have them. You do not have to fix them today. Seeing the list is the work. Avalanche and snowball are classroom names for two orders — not a personality test.

  5. Day 5 — Name a buffer, even a small one

One month of must-pays is already a buffer. Three months is a common example, not a dare. A partial buffer still counts. We will not tell you where to keep it.

  6. Day 6 — Optional: one leak or one bill to simplify

One subscription, one errand, one hour that keeps leaking. If you cannot cut it, write that too. Honesty is the practice. The time-reclaim sketch is approximate on purpose.

  7. Day 7 — Rest

No streak. If you want a calculator, open one Life tool and leave the rest. If you want to sit, sit. Shame about money is another noise; it does not help the Work.

When you want a calculator instead of a notebook, the Life / money tools stay on this device. They are educational helpers, not advice.

Going deeper into Gnostic work

Practical Gnosis calls the long path the Great Work: self-observation, meditation, and the slow work of not being run by every mechanical “I.” That work needs hours and a mind that is not constantly putting out fires. Temperance — Chicago Gnosis’s Arcanum 14 — is a symbol of measure, not a diet of suffering. Aparigraha on this site’s ethics track is non-grasping: not a vow of poverty, and not a sermon that wealth is holy. Some people have little leftover. That is a fact about rent and wages, not a grade. Some people have plenty and are still owned by the next purchase. That is also a fact. The point here is capacity: a must-pay list, a look at debt, a small buffer, then the sitting. We do not pick products. We do not tell you that awakening requires being poor or being rich. Courses, when we name them, live on archive.glorian.org. We do not send you to shop.glorian.org. We do not reprint the books.

Tradition: Practical Gnosis. Credit stays with Glorian and Chicago Gnosis. Courses use archive.glorian.org. We do not send you to the closed shop.

  13. The Great Rebellion (opens in a new tab)

    Glorian · Practical Gnosis

Rebellion against inner defects — not against a rent notice, and not against a clinician if money stress has become a crisis.

  14. Self-observation and self-remembering (opens in a new tab)

    Glorian · Practical Gnosis

Daytime work: watching the state just before the purchase or the panic. Archive lecture, not the shop.

What this site will not do

  • No shame spiral. Observation is the method. Humiliation is not.
  • No fake medical claims. We do not diagnose, detox, or cure. We do not replace recovery programs. We do not claim a 100% clinical success rate.
  • No product picks. We do not name brokers, tickers, or “buy this.” Educational tools only — not personalized financial, tax, or investment advice.
  • No streaks or badges. Miss a day, write it, continue. There is no chain to break.
  • No republishing books. Chapters and lectures stay with their publishers.

When you are ready

Three small rooms, in this order: a practice, today’s reading, then one lecture. Stopping after the first is still enough. The rest of the map will still be here.
