Debts you enter

Balance, annual rate, and the minimum you already pay. Names stay on this device. We do not pick a lender.

Beyond the minimums. Zero is allowed. The comparison still runs on minimums alone.

Avalanche

Highest rate first

Snowball

Smallest balance first

Avalanche usually pays less interest if the numbers hold. Snowball pays the smallest balance first, which some people find easier to finish. This is a comparison of two classroom methods — not a recommendation.

What the two orders mean

Avalanche sends extra money to the highest annual rate while you keep paying the other minimums. If the numbers hold, interest is usually smaller. Snowball sends extra to the smallest balance first. Some people find a finished balance easier to live with, even if the interest sketch is larger.

This is arithmetic on the figures you type. It ignores fees, hardship programs, taxes, and the rest of a real life. If payments do not cover interest, the honest next room may be a qualified adviser — not a harder vow.

The handheld week is I want to simplify my money so I can practice.
