Meditation timer
A soft ending so you aren’t yanked out of the sit. Most clocks on the web end like a kitchen timer. This one is only a length and a gentle close. No account, no streak, no score.
This timer runs in your browser. Turn on JavaScript to sit with it.
20:00
Ready
The sitting is over
Session complete
Take a breath before you stand. Nothing is scored.
How to use it
Pick a length, sit, and let the close come to you. Start is silent unless you ask for a very soft opening chime. The default end sound is the gentlest of the three: a small decaying bowl. Wind chimes and distant bells are the same idea, a little brighter or lower. Silent close is there for a shared room, a sleeping house, or a sit where even a chime would be too much.
A gentle interval bell is off unless you turn it on. Use it for a longer sit if you want a quiet mark every so many minutes — still a chime, not a slap. Open sit mode if you want the chrome to step back.
The screen and other tabs
While the timer runs, we ask the browser to keep the screen awake
(wakeLock) if it knows how. That request can fail on some
phones, in battery-saver modes, or if the page is not visible. If the
screen still sleeps, the sitting is not lost; the remaining time is
counted from the real clock.
Background tabs are less reliable. Some browsers slow scripts or mute audio when this page is not in front. We schedule the end sound on the audio clock when you press Start, which often still rings — but a phone or laptop may still swallow it. If the close matters, keep this tab open. When you return, the clock catches up, and you will see Session complete even if you heard nothing.
What this is not
It is not a practice. Concentration still lives on Glorian’s path, and on the beginner doors if a full sit is too much. A timer does not replace ethics, posture, or a teacher. It only refuses to yank you out when the time is over.
When you are ready
One next sitting is enough. The eight-limb map waits without hurry.
